My sincerest condolences to the family of Don Hickson. I was introduced to Don in August 1972 at Maple Lanes Golf Course. It was a 6:30 Saturday morning group called the Warren Builders Golf League. About 24-28 golfers ready to tee it up. It took a few weeks to play with just about everyone. Somewhere in those weeks I played with Don and from that time until just a few years ago, we played for the better part of 48 years, and our friendship continued through the next 5 years.
Frequent luncheons, and Sunday night phone calls reviewing the week in sports and other topics was our "getting together time" .
Don had the gift of being able to recount and remember a great many stories and events.
One of the best things for me was that I was introduced to Don's circle of grade school/high school buddies and that produced many rounds of golf with them over the years. They are a very dedicated and fun group, and I appreciated their company.
Don was also an extremely good bowler, and I recruited him, and the late Terry Porter to bowl in the Detroit Rotary Bowling League. Of course they win the Championship the first year!
Our annual golf trips, began somewhere in the 80"s, and took us on many 3 and 4 day excursions around the entire state. Usually eight of us, with his brother John's diligence in setting up the venues, became the highlight of our year. These memories will be forever in my thoughts.
For sure he will be missed by his family, and I send my deepest condolences and prayers for them.
