Duane Joseph Finerty's Obituary
Duane J. Finerty, (77), of Warren, MI passed away on September 15, 2015 at St. John’s Macomb Hospital.
Duane was born in Detroit to the late Cecil J. and Clara Finerty. He is survived by his children Charles “Chas” Finerty, James Scott Finerty, Holly (John) Kunz, granddaughter Morgan and his very special friend and caregiver Karen Schimmel.
Duane grew up in Grosse Pointe, attending Grosse Pointe High School as well as Staunton Military Academy in Virginia graduating in 1956 and served in the Korean War.
Duane loved cars, flying airplanes and sailing which became his true passion. He enjoyed many years sailing Lake St Clair on his boat “Dominocus” and spending time by the water at Jefferson Beach Marina.
Friendly and fun loving, he met many people and made many friends over the years. Duane was a unique, one of a kind man who touched so many lives with his wonderful sense of humor and kind heart. He will be truly missed by all those that knew him.
A private service for Duane will be held in Florida where his family resides. A memorial gathering for friends will be Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 1pm at Grosse Pointe Woods Presbyterian Church, 19950 Mack Avenue. Please share a memory at www.rudyfuneral.com.
