It is with a heavy heart that I say good bye to an amazing friend. Grandma Carter had taught so many the old country ways of doing things. Spring always brought tilling the garden, summer for the planting and fall the harvest. Siting at the table eating a fresh tomato just plucked from the garden will remain one of my fondest memories. But the top of my list has to be when you asked me to pull a huge weed and told me you were going to make me Polk Salad. You went on to tell me that the berries and stems were poisonous, you had to boil it twice and mix in 2 tablespoons of bacon grease. WHAT??
Best Polk Salad ever, however, I do remember asking if you ate any first.
Helen, you will be missed by so many.
Always in my thoughts and prayers, now you rest.
