A few words in memory of Linda Ernst (as written by Sandra Kilar)
Linda lived a remarkable life as a devoted daughter, sister, cousin and friend. Her attitude of always putting others first persisted even after the onset of MS about 15 years ago. Her generosity and unselfishness inspired all who knew her. She was always willing to listen to others, putting their concerns above her own. “One day at a time” was her motto and she inspired that in all of us. Linda's positive outlook made her a wonderful person to know and be with.
Linda had practical, common sense that stayed with her and allowed her to meet the challenges she faced every day. She always rose to meet these challenges, at work, with family or friends, or later with her illness. She had a certain dignity about her. She was a faithful friend and could always be counted on. Linda had a great perspective when it came to the little things in life. She knew it was important to be patient and not become angry, with herself or others. Instead she showed kindness, sweetness, sometimes a little sassy attitude and most of all, a strong faith in God. She maintained this peace of mind, no matter what obstacles she faced.
Linda was the lynchpin for family and friends. She kept up friendships from her early youth on Wexford and at Dominican High School. We will all miss her ability to make us feel better about ourselves or our situations when we had actually called or visited to cheer her up ! We will miss the warmth and generosity she extended to everyone.
Linda loved her home, her collections of angels, teddy bears and snowmen. But most of all, she loved all of you here today. She would tell you “Do what you can with what you have”. Each of you has your own personal memories of her. Share and laugh about memories of Linda and remember how she touched our lives. These memories will be forever cherished.
A quote Linda would have loved is “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die”.
