Louis B. Schimmel Sr. age 93, died Tuesday August 7,2012.A Lifelong resident of Center Line,Louis was was married to Mary, his wife of 65 years who preceded him in death in 2011. Family was foremost throughout their life and they particularly enjoyed being with their 12 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren. Louis served in the Army during World War II. While in the Army,he was stationed in Germany and the Aleutian Islands. In 1946, he became a Charter member of the Cpl. Richard W. Menge V.F.W. Post 6756 and served as commander in 1951. Louis retired after 29 years from the Center Line Post Office and was the Center Line Post Master from 1949-1974. Louis was a life member of the Fr. Kramer Knights of Columbus, a member and Past president of the Center Line Rotary Club, a member and Past president of the Saint Clements Dads Club, and served as Chairman of the City of Center Line’s Bicentennial Commission. Louis loved sports and lived an active life. He bowled, golfed and played baseball well into his retirement years. He is survived by his children,Mary Ann (James) Blakely, Patricia Mason, Louis B. (Suzanne) Schimmel Jr.,Denise (late william) Willisand Kathleen (Patrick) Moran.He is also survived by his sisters Imelda Shelton, Lucille Sciotti, ann Ann Marie Ioppolo. Visitation at Rudy Funeral Home 25650 Van Dyke, Center Line on Thursday August 9,2012 from 1-9 PM with a 7 PM rosary.Instate Friday 9:30 AM at St Clement Church 25320 Van Dyke for a 10 AM Mass.Burial at Christian Memorial Cemetery.
