I have so many very special memories of my grandmother. She was always very supportive, loving, caring, a bit of a troublemaker, a great cook, independent, and stubborn. She loved her collections of trinkets, Knick knacks, western movies, and Andrew Sisters.
She took care of people such as her step-mom, dad, and Poppy; her brothers, her kids, me, my kids, Poppy’s brother’s kids- the list goes on who she has helped.
She was more than a homemaker though as she worked several lead roles- with Poppy’s construction company, on the team who painted the Silverdome, head cook at a hospital and various restaurants at Dollywood.
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving in part because growing up, we- her kids and grandkids- would celebrate Christmas at Thanksgiving with her. Her house would be warm, cozy, decorated, and full of wonderful smells. I would make a game of counting Santa’s- she had so many! I have a few that she gave me that I keep up year round and a several Christmas tree ornaments that bring back fond childhood memories.
One of the last stories she told me was about how she met Poppy. It was Valentine’s Day, she was 17 or 18, and on a double date- but he wasn’t her date! Gram loved Poppy deeply.
The last four things she asked me for the week she passed- a light beer or margarita, spiced gum drops, to see my girls, and to bring my mom. I brought her all.
My heart is so sad but I know she is free. Rest In Peace, Gram ❤️
