I always remember the night in 1966 when Susie vacationed in NYC with some girlfriends. Paul Eisele and I were attending Fordham U there that summer, so we planned a night out for St. Clement grads.. (We graduated the year before Susie). We joked that it was sort of a "Center Line does Manhattan" night.
When Paul and I went to their hotel we were prevented from going up to their room by security. We guessed we looked like a couple of country bumpkins. So they met us in the lobby and we ended up going to Greenwich Village to see some "beatniks."
We went to a coffee house---unique to the Village in those years---named the Cafe Wha? Like nearly everyone else there, we were pointing at others, wondering if they were "real Beatniks."
Oddly enough, we learned later from Rolling Stone magazine that one of the musicians playing/singing there was none other than Jimi Hendrix, before he became famous in England shortly thereafter. I do remember he sang the Beatles' "Yesterday" and had very glassy-eyed looks, but a mellow voice.
Go Crusaders! (Susie was a cheerleader).
