Francis (Frank) Raymond Murray, age 86, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Frank was born April 17, 1936.
Francis (known by everyone as Frank) was born on April 17, 1936 to mother Caroline and father Tibertius in Toledo, OH.
Frank was raised in in Toledo, OH along with his 3 siblings, Thomas, Caroline and Veronica.
Frank loved playing sports. He played high school ice hockey for Central Catholic which was a popular sport at the school.
Frank attended Notre Dame University, following the footsteps of this father who ran cross-country for Knute Rockne. His Uncle Father Raymond and Cousin Father Edmund were also teachers at the University.
After completing his sophomore year, he decided to join the US Army and spent 2 years overseas in Germany. Frank then completed his education at the University of Toledo.
In 1957, he met the love of his life, Sally Huenefeld. They later married and moved to Detroit, MI to start a family.
Frank is the dearest husband of Sally for 63 years. Loving father of Mark (Karen) Murray, Suzanne (Gary) Novak, Frank (Laura) Murray, and Christopher (Michele) Murray. Grandfather of Kelly, Michael, Nicholas, Stephanie, Joseph, Nathan, Jacob, Mitchell, Ryan, and Lauren. Survived by his sister Caroline Botwin and predeceased by his siblings, Thomas and Veronica. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Frank started his career in the Pharmaceutical Sales where he excelled and later became an entrepreneur in the Financial Planning Industry in which he worked over 40 years until his retirement.
Frank continued his love of sports. He played handball, racquetball, ice hockey and was a competitive sailor. He later started windsurfing in the early 1980’s. This soon led him to start the Grosse Pointe Windsurfing Association out of Grosse Pointe Patterson Park. He and mom ran the Annual GPWA Regatta for 14 years.
Frank also instilled this passion for sports in his children and grandchildren. He was a hockey coach and a big cheerleader on the sidelines for his family.
In later years, he joined the church choir and sang in the Grosse Pointe Community Chorus as well.
He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, a man who always had time for a friendly conversation.
Frank was a strong, proud, kind and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many!
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 21620 Greater Mack Avenue, Saint Clair Shores, MI 48080, Instate 9:30am for 10am Mass, followed by military honors.
